Dia De Velitas
It was the night of December 7th in Bogota,Colombia. The streets of the city were illuminated with thousands of small flames. This celebration is called El Dia de las Velitas, one of the most beloved traditions for us Colombians. I feel joyful to see the neighborhood children running from one side to another, carrying colorful lanterns and lighting candles in every corner. It was a scene that brought back memories of my childhood, when my whole family would go out to celebrate this holiday. The air was filled with the smell of Buñuelos and Natilla. I remember the family togetherness and the faith we put in when we light each candle so that our wishes will be fulfilled. Now, here in the United States I continue to celebrate in honor of all my family that is far away with the hope of being able to share once again with them feeling that the spirit of Christmas and tradition merge into one magical moment. I smiled, knowing that Candlelight Day would live on in my heart and I will teach it to my descendants.
