Declaration of Intention

Partner:

My grandfather, Julius Peterson, was born on July 24, 1864 in Brakne Hoby, Blekinge, Sweden, and came to Grand Marais, Michigan in 1894. He immigrated leaving his daughter (Lilly, 3), and his dad, where they started to work in a lumber camp, where he ran a store. He there met Hilma Johansdr who was working as a cook. They later moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where he then opened his own grocery store and his daughter later joined him. He and Hilma had 7 children, aside from Lily, whom he had with his first wife. My picture is his Declaration of Intention, which he had to sign to state his intent to become a citizen of the United States which possibly to get him into the country. It was signed on March 8, 1894 ,the same day he arrived.

Year: 1894
