Cross Necklace

Relationship: Im/migrant

The object I chose is my cross necklace. My cross necklace means so much to me I got it as a gift from my aunt in 2008 when I was six years old. She gave it to me when I immigrated to New York from Dominican Republic. Ever since then I never took off because it feels like it protects me and its kind of like a lucky charm. She had told me it belonged to her son (my cousin Dariel) when he was around my age but he got older so she thought it was best if I had it. One day I want my child to wear it and keep the beautiful history going by passing it to other family members that's how special the necklace is to me. I feel like the necklace defines me and makes me unique because there's not a day someone sees me and doesn't see the necklace around my neck. We all have that one thing that defines us makes us unique or means a lot in our lives and family and that thing is my cross necklace.
