Cross Necklace

How does a simple item gain a great deal of value? For me, a necklace means a connection to my family, faith, and history. My grandmother immigrated to America from Palermo, Italy. I love to hear her extensive stories about her life there; whether it be hearing about the poor weather, grand cathedrals, or beautiful marketplaces she remembers so vividly. However, my favorite story of all is about the necklace that I cherish so dearly. Though she bought the necklace in America, she wore it constantly and she has traveled the world with it. The small shiny cross has seen Italy, Greece, Switzerland, and France. Additionally, the reason I admire this necklace so much is because it allows for storytelling that brings my family together while also connecting me to my religion. The lovely necklace has met and encountered countless different cultures and people that hopefully I will meet in the near future. I hope to one day visit my relatives back in Italy and I will wear the necklace with pride how my grandmother did many years ago. It is also very valuable to me because I wore it at my Sweet Sixteen party which was a special day for me, alike to how she has worn it for many important days of her life. In summary, this necklace has been with my family through thick and thin and I am endlessly grateful and proud to wear it around my neck.
