Court Bear
When I was born, I was put into an orphanage in Feng City, China. Approximately 5-6 months later, I met my forever mom. My mom and my aunt flew from Arcata, CA airport to Guangzhou, China airport (14 hours) to adopt me in 2003. When she landed in China, she was met with a couple of other families who were also adopting babies from the same orphanage. After my mom filled out the paperwork and showed them my photo, she was taken over to where I was and met me for the first time. Many hours later, she brought me back to the motel room. She was in China for about 3 weeks before she could go to the courthouse in Guangzhou for the judge to sign papers to bring me to the United States. On July 23, 2003, I became a legal U.S. citizen. A couple of days later, my mom made the 14-hour flight back to the United States with me. When we touched down on U.S. grounds, my mom and my grandma took me to the courthouse to sign the final papers. This time, we all got a family photo with the judge and he gave me a court bear to remember the day that I was officially a U.S. citizen. Three years later, my mom decided that she was going to adopt again. She brought her best friend to make the trip to Vietnam. I was three at the time so I don't remember much except for the fact that we were flying home with a baby. It took about 2 weeks to finalize the adoption in Vietnam and a couple of days to finalize everything in the U.S. After the judge signed the papers, my mom, grandma, and my sister all got to be in a group photo with the judge and my sister also walked away with a court bear.
