My name is Redgina. I’m from Haiti. I’m 18 years old. I’m a senior, and will graduate in June 2025. I am going to study nursing. I left my homeland, Haiti, when I was 12 years old and lived for two years in Brazil. My time living in São Paulo was pleasant and it was a positive experience. However, my burdensome journey to the United States began when I was 14 years old. I remember the day this journey began: I sat nervously on the plane, clutching my passport and looking out the window as Bolivia disappeared from view. I was excited but scared, leaving behind my friends, grandparents, and everything familiar. I traveled to Brazil for 24 hours, when I got there my dad was already waiting for me and my mom. I was so excited. In 2021 my dad decided to come to America. Coming to America it was a long tragedy. I made a lot of challenges. When our flight arrived we had to buy a ticket to take the scary boat into the terrifying Amazon forest.  My heart was beating fast, I clutched my mother’s hand as we walked through the wild Amazonian forest. I got goosebumps every time I heard unfamiliar sounds.  I was afraid that the wild animal would hurt me or my mom. Usually my night went blank in the wild because of weather conditions, there was lightning and big thunder, wind blowing. Sometimes the river comes with power that even people who know how to swim could not survive. The serpents are extremely scary and poisonous. I have witnessed people who got bitten by snakes in the wild. I was sick for days, my skin was as hot as hell. There was a moment I thought I wouldn’t make it.
