colada morada
Colada morada or a drink for the day of the dead is a traditional thick fruity purple drink from Ecuador sometimes with a bit of spices, it is normally drunk on November 2 and eaten with guaguas de pan or sweet bread in the shape that looks like babies. I never had any traditional Ecuadorian food or drinks aside from Cuy (guinea pig), empanadas, despite my grandparents and father being Ecuadorian, the first time i had colada morada was at a collectiva bilingüe back in 2025 at an elementary school made for hispanic kids, at first i thought it tasted a bit weird sense it was cook warm not cold like a smoothie but got warm after a while resulting in you being able to taste almost all of fruits inside of the drink but as i continued to drink finish my cup of it, i started to like it and wanted to take the rest home but i was suppose to be handing it out to other people. Since my culture has been getting pulled away from me over the years, food, drinks, and even music is kinda the only thing I have to get as close to my race as I grow up. I hope to get even closer to my race as best I can.
