Charm Bracelet
I watched a video featuring Dipika Mukherjee, whose significant object was a charm bracelet that her parents gave her for doing well in school.
This is my grandmother's charm bracelet that her parents gave her for her ninth birthday. Each charm on it represents a special moment in her childhood; from her family pet dachshunds to tiny clog shoes that symbolize a doll that she once had. For every birthday, she would get a new charm to put on the bracelet. It was passed down to my mom, and then to me, and it embodies the spirit of family and friendship. When my mom first gave the bracelet to me, it was so magical to a nine year old me with its antique, intricate charms of flowers, gems, and my favorite, the dachshund, that it felt like I was stepping into another time. My grandmother is a very important person in my life, almost like a second parent to me. She is caring, kind, thoughtful, and shares my love of reading and writing. This bracelet matters to me because it tells a story of my grandmother's childhood, and makes me think of the connection to my family, which is something that I value.
