charm

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself”- Joseph Campbell. In other words, my great uncle Bob, a World War 1 paratrooper, risked his life to serve and protect his fellow Americans. The last time I saw my great uncle Bob before he passed, he gave me a charm in honor of him serving in World War 1. Furthermore, this charm, made of gold with an encrusted diamond, was given to him in reward for his great bravery and toughness throughout the war. His prized possession came from the government of the U.S.A. because of his honor and patriotism. In learning about war veterans, my parents talked to me about the charm and how amazing and brave all war veterans are for having enough courage to fight in the war. On holidays such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, I feel very blessed to live in a great country and I connect these important days to the charm and to my great uncle Bob. The charm is important to me because it reminds me of all U.S. citizens and how far we have come as a country. In addition, the ring correlates to our history and how we fought to achieve our independence. Finally, seeing the charm fills me with pride and a feeling of patriotism to live in such a great country.
