This is cameo jewelry, a popular style in the 1920s that depicts a silhouette of a person, sometimes a Greek or Roman god/goddess on a charm. These pieces were bought by my great, great aunt (Mary Fay) who was the daughter of Jewish Hungarian immigrants and was raised as a Jewish Hungarian. She met my grandmother’s father’s brother and married into my very Irish Catholic family after converting to Catholicism two days prior. While we don’t know much about her dedication to religion, that forced shift to marry the person she loved reveals how different life was back in that time period.
