Buddhist Shrine
The object that represents my family’s cultural identity is a Shrine that is hung up on my living room wall. The shrine represents my family’s cultural identity because it shows that we as a family are selfless and offer a lot. Our shrine is meant to connect to the people we’ve lost. We put flowers, food, and candles on this shrine to show our love and also give them something to enjoy. When something in our family happens, we go to this shrine and pray. My family members came from Cambodia and they are here, in Lowell, several years later. My family’s story is unique because they all came here for a better life, and this shrine has been a big impact from the start. Our story connects to many other family stories because there are many families that have come to America for a reason and probably have an object that represents hope for them.
