Bowl
This bowl was given to my father from my grandmother (his mother) before he left China for America. He immigrated here on his own, as a graduate student attending Pace University. He was the first in his family to leave China, so my grandmother was deeply concerned with his well being. He came to NYC with only a few personal possessions, a rudimentary understanding of the English language, and an eagerness to start a new life in America. This bowl continues to serve as a reminder of his childhood in China and the struggles he faced when he first arrived here. While our family is now well settled in New York, we are always appreciative of the sacrifices my father made.
