Big Breakfast Sundays

A tradition that is important to my family is Big Breakfast Sundays. It all started when my great grandmother would make breakfast on Sundays and invite the whole family over to eat. It was brought over to the United States from Ireland because of my great grandmother. She moved to the United States to live the “American dream” when she was very young. When she passed everything was gloomy. The only thing that made us feel complete was Big Breakfast Sundays because it brings her back. This tradition was passed on to my grandmother, then once she passes it will be my mother hosting breakfast. It has a huge impact on my family because of her death. We say a prayer before we eat just like she did because she was very religious. She was Christian and so is most of my family except for my mom, siblings, and I. To celebrate holidays or birthdays we all meet up and have a big family feast, similar to Big Breakfast Sundays. I remember when I was little we would go to my great grandmothers on Sundays and when I walked in I could smell the aromas of a perfectly cooked meal. She smelled like roses all the time because of her perfume, but it would also stink of cigarettes because she had an addiction to them. She died because of lung cancer because she would smoke 2 packs a day. She tried to quit because she knew what the consequences would be, but once she finally quit it was too late.
