Bible
An object that is meaningful to me is a Bible that my father gave me when he dropped me off for college almost nine hours away from my home. This specific Bible was important to him not only because of his faith, but also because it is a bible for men. It was something he could relate to and find comfort in when it seemed nothing could go right. Since I do not have a brother and he does not have a son, he gave his Bible to me so I could have a piece of him. He also gave it to me because he told me if I ever felt lost or off-course, reading it would remind me of both him and my faith, which is something we both share and hold tightly. My family is Lutheran, and religion is important to both sets of grandparents not only because of their upbringings, but also because it brings us together. I do not know much about my family history; however, I do know that my family originated from Northern France. My grandfather always told me that he was raised in a religious environment, and that the bible and the word of God is something my family has held onto for generations. I believe that to be true when it comes to my family’s immigration experience because when my ancestors made the decision to come to the United States, I imagine they took their religious faith with them, just like I have always been taught to do. Although the Bible my father gave me was for men, I believe in the deeper meaning and remember the memories it holds.
