My object is a bamboo dragonfly I got from Taiwan about a year ago. The bamboo dragonfly originated in ancient China and was one of the first examples of helicopter and flying designs. Today it’s mostly used as a toy for children. If you rub the base between your hands for a few seconds and let go it will fly for a few moments. Traditional ones are made of bamboo and wood but plastic ones are common in the U.S.
I chose the bamboo dragonfly because it represents my mom’s culture and she used it when she was a kid. It teaches that this part of my culture ( the Asian part ) is smart and was clever enough to invent it back in ancient China when there was barely any technology. This is connected to my mom who immigrated to the U.S in 2012.
I want to know why they invented it or did they do it by accident. My final thought is that bamboo dragonflies are super fun and you should get one.
