The object that represents my culture is the Apotokoyewee & Topoli. It is an iconic item used by many Africans for mashing ingredients. It’s usually used for spicy stew or soup. My family has used it to make spicy stew like Anwa, a spicy stew that is used to make Anwa moo “Red Oil Rice”. It dates back centuries ago when our ancestors used it to make spices, vegetables, and mostly traditional mashes. It is very used and people even use it today.
My mother showed me it to teach me about our history of making mashed food. She said it was passed down from generation to generation as a clay bowl. It has an unknown date of creation but it was made centuries ago. To this day, when November arrives, it is recognized as World Asanka Month. Africans has held on to this item as an important item for making food other than blenders and might forever be used.
