An old luggage
My object of focus is an old luggage that was used during the 2010’s by my mom to travel back and forth between Bangladesh and America. The first time I remember the luggage being used was when I was 5 years old in 2013 going to Bangladesh with my mom. The old luggage is important to me because it represents my move to Bangladesh where I was able to learn to speak my language (Bangla) and learn more about Bengali culture. For my mom who came to the US around the early 2000s before I was born, it meant a trip back to Bangladesh but this time with her daughter. The luggage also represents the transfer between Bangladesh and America since during the times my mom would go back to the US, she would take some cultural attires, jewelry and even food with her and from the US, she would bring back cosmetics, skin care and candies to share with family.
The luggage in a way shows my knowledge on Bengali culture, the language, immigration from Bangladesh to America and my music taste. Living in Bangladesh has shaped me as a person in a way different ways to approach other cultures and the way I'm aware of their traditions. Therefore I'm very conscious and respectful of others beliefs. Others can connect to my story as they might've also come to the US bringing a piece of their culture with them and adopting new things from the US. Other immigrant families can be similar to mine where they go back and forth between their home country and America and during each trip they bring an item with them that's from the said countries.
