My grandma grew up in D.C with her two sisters. Her parents died when she was ten due to a shooting which left her uncle and aunt to take care of them. My grandma grew up dirt poor and they lived in one room barely covering the rent. My grandma always told me that her favorite meal was grilled cheese, which sounds ridiculous to me. A grilled cheese was the most important meal to her that she never got due to money problems. She is the nicest person in the world and her courage inspires me. Her excitement for grilled cheese to this day amazes me.
