This item is a seasonal decoration called the Advent Kranz. Its purpose is to count down the remaining Sundays until Christmas. Every Sunday, a new candle is lit. Using the Kranz is a tradition that is done throughout Austria during the holidays. My mom came to the United States when she was 22; the plan was to travel abroad while figuring out what to do with her life. On her second day in Los Angeles, she was robbed and lost her passport, money, and ID. My mom then took a job as a nanny because she knew how to care for children and, without any ID, it would take months for a new passport. She then took bar-tending at the same time as nannying for more money. My Mom was lucky and won the green card lottery. She fell in love with Ventura (especially with the weather), and met my Dad.

Now, we love visiting family in Austria and spending time with them. I love connecting with her culture and family! I cannot wait to visit again!
