The egg represents the beauty of the island that I come from. Since my mom migrated to America from St. Martin, I never truly got the chance to bond with my mother's side of the family. Since she comes from the Dutch side of the island, instead of calling them family, I call them by the Dutch pronunciation "Familie." The color and design the pattern of the gift given in greater detail shows how it could be represented as the Caribbean island. Mijn familie or my family is of Dutch origin in the Caribbean and I see it as a great opportunity because America can't really describe my own family without actually seeing them from my own perspective. The item of value represents the early years of migration to America to see the great opportunity the land can give. As my mom and her mom came from the island, they saw a new environment and a chance to start fresh. I'm happy that they took the chance to come over to America. I can now say that throughout her years she has had her ups and downs but she brought that egg to remember her old life and so that she could remember why she came over.
