A Photo of Me and my Dad
This picture here is me and my dad on the side of the Boston City Hall in 2004. My dad is an immigrant from the African country of Cape Verde. He was born on August 10th, 1975 in Sal, Cape Verde. He immigrated with his mom to the U.S on July 31st, 1987. His dad stayed in Cape Verde until his death in around 1991-1992. In 2000, my dad had met my mom through mutual friends. While my dad is from Cape Verde, my mom is from in the United States and she is a white American. A year later, I was born as a Cape Verdean and white American. Seventeen years after he immigrated to America, my dad became a legal U.S citizen in 2004. Sometime in my late teens and early 20s, I wanted to learn more about Cape Verdean culture, a shared culture with me, my dad, and his side of the family. I had been taking some classes in Cape Verdean Creole at Massasoit to learn more about and understand the language. I have been also learning to take pride in my Cape Verdean American heritage by spending time with my dad and his family and understanding Cape Verdean culture. I hope that sometime in the future, I can travel to Cape Verde and experience what is life like there.
