Wooden Rosary
My object is a wooden rosary that formerly belonged to my grandmother and my mother before being passed down to me. It was a gift to my grandmother from one of her friends when she married my grandfather and she kept it until my mother was confirmed into Christianity at age 14. My mom gave it to me when my grandmother died in 2018 because she wanted me to have something of hers to remember her. She also gave a rosary to my brother, although a different one, for him to have something. It represents our faith and the role church plays in our lives, especially in my grandmother’s. It also shows how faith can be a constant through moving and hardship, as it has remained with us throughout our lives and been reliable to turn to. My mom had to leave home for the first time when she became a doctor, and she always used the church and her religion as a rock that she could lean on for support. I think the rosary demonstrates the ability of Americans to push through when it may be tough and the determination to move forward no matter what the circumstances.
