Wooden Cane
My family artifact is a cane that is almost 100 years old, and it was used by my great-great-grandfather in 1920. They were poor and didn't have enough money to buy a cane. My great-grandfather went into the woods when he was 10 years old looking for something he could use as a cane. My great-grandfather found a branch on a tree that looked just like a cane. He cut it and brought it home. After that my great-great-grandfather used it for 20 years. Then my great-grandfather hurt his leg 60 years ago, and he used it. My grandfather told me that I am the fifth generation to hold this cane. The meaning of this cane has changed over time, because it was once used to help someone. Now it is a piece of my family's history. This artifact expands my knowledge about this time period. A lot of people did not have money to get things that they needed. That is the story of this cane.
