This was early fall of 1950 and and wine making was in the air, literally, you could smell the sweet smell of crushed grapes and fermenting wine for several weeks. It was a ritualized event. Shades were drawn on the windows for fear of revenuers or police getting “wind” of our probably not illegal activities.
