Veladora
As numerous people immigrate to the US, their culture follows them. A cultural holiday that my family celebrates is the Day of the Dead. We set up an altar in my aunt's home every year and bring in framed photos of our loved ones who have passed away alongside some of their favorite treats. In my Mexican culture, the veladora (candle) represents light and the presence of spirit, especially when we are remembering those who have passed away. The veladora is one of the most important pieces in the altar because we know that the spirit of our loved ones is with us on this day.
