Tortilladora

This wasn't just any tortilladora it was a piece of my Mexican heritage. It was passed down from my abuela who brought it all the way from Mexico many years ago back when I was born. Every time I use it, I feel a connection to her and the traditions that made us who we are. The worn-out metal handles fit perfectly in my hands, showing the years of use and the countless tortillas made with love. My best memories were made in my kitchen. I remember her laughter filling the room as we worked together, and how warm and happy I felt just being near her. I especially loved playing with the masa when I was little because it felt like playing with dough! She would always bring us candy and toys from Mexico, which gave us a look into our culture. As I press the masa, I imagine my abuela doing the same thing. Her hands were rough but strong, and her heart was full of many stories to tell. This tortilladora is more than just a kitchen utensil, it's a true connection to my roots. It reminds me of how hard my family worked and the culture that defines us. If I’d ask it a question I would ask, where did it truly come from. With every tortilla I make, I am honoring my abuela and keeping our traditions alive for generations to come.
