Earrings from Samarkand

In Samarkand, where my family came from, my great grandmother bought a pair of earrings with little flowers on them. She bought them when she was young. They are special to me because these beautiful earrings were passed down from my great grandmother to my sister.  My great grandmother got them when she was young when she lived in Samarkand.  Then she had her own family and passed them down to her daughter, who is my grandma. Then it was passed down to my mother.  My sister got the earrings because she is the oldest. My sister wears them during special occasions.  She will pass them to her child one day. These earrings were made in Samarkand. The earrings are made out of gold and my great grandmother was heard to say that they were expensive. I wish I had gotten them.  But they were given to my sister. I learned that the first born child receives the heirlooms that are passed down from our ancestors.  I have to remember to keep this tradition and the memories alive.  They are important to me.
These earrings are not just important to me, but they are equally important to my family, too. They remind all of us of our great grandmother. My mother feels happy and so does my sister because they have something that belonged to my great grandmother.  Especially for my mother, because these earrings remind her of her precious childhood in Samarkand.
