The Roots of Our Family
My name is Sophia Vecchione and I am 8 years old. My story has roots in four countries: Italy, Ireland, Vietnam, and the United States.
My father’s paternal grandparents are from Italy (Vecchione) and his maternal grandparents (Quinn) are from Ireland. Both were first generation immigrants to New York City.
My mother and her extended family (Pham & Nguyen) are from Vietnam and were a part of the Vietnamese refugees who came to the United States in 1975 at the fall of Saigon. My mother was only two years old then.
I’d like to think that our families are united here in me and reflect what makes our place in the world diverse, rich, and unique.
