The Real McCoy Lamp

When my Grandpa Peter came to America all he had were the clothes on his back, a few dollars and a dream. He came to America in 1947 and in 1950 enlisted in the Army to serve in the Korean War. The object I picked is a Real McCoy automatic oilier for moving parts on steam engines.  My dad told me my grandpa bought it from the Detroit Lubricator Co. and turned it into a lamp. But this item isn't about the lamp, it's about what it symbolized. My grandpa was an inventor. He had one of the first oil companies in New York City and invented the oil tank sensor and communication system. He owned and ran Emerald Oil, and co-owned Hoey and Hersch electric contracting I.N.C and sent all of his 7 kids through college and led a life of innovation. When ever we have people over at our house my dad tells the story. This object connects to my culture because it proves Ireland's greatest export is it people.
