The Pink Doll
This picture shows the pink doll that my mom gave me in 2016, when I first came to the U.S. from Bangladesh. My parents are divorced, so it was just my dad, my older sister, and me who made the journey here. My mom gave me this doll to remind me that she is always with me, no matter where I go. Since then, I have carried this doll with me everywhere, as it reminds me of our immigration journey and keeps my mom close in my heart. It’s been nine years since I lived thousands of miles away from my mom. This gift serves as a constant reminder of my experience as the daughter of immigrants living far from home. Even though I am a citizen here in the U.S., it still doesn't feel completely like home, since my true homeland is somewhere else. However, we came here for better opportunities.
