Samoval
Samovals are metal containers used traditionally to boil water for tea. They originated in Russia but spread culturally throughout the rest of eastern Europe. This particular samoval was made in the late 1800s and was brought to America when my great great grandparents immigrated from Hungary. I don't know for sure why they immigrated but I assume it has a lot to do with the Jewish persecution that was prevalent throughout eastern Europe during this time. It reminds me of all the hardship my family had to go through to create a good life for me, and that I can't waste all the opportunities that this samoval represents.
