Dala Horse
I am a white, American born New Yorker, born in Manhattan to a father from California and a mother from Tappan, NY. In other words, I have no tales to tell of my own experience, nor that of my close relatives, of immigration. However, being that I am white, I clearly must be descended from those that came to this continent a long time ago. Earlier in my still young life, I was told that I was Scottish on my father's side and Norwegian on my mother's. Since then, I have identified as a Scottish-Norwegian New Yorker. But recently I found out that I, and by extension 3 of my siblings, are additionally part German and Swedish (I am whiter than freshly driven snow). This is why I chose a Dala Horse as my object, it represents to me a vast vein of untapped history just beneath the surface. I don't have my own story of immigration, but there must be countless stories of those who came before me and allowed me to be where I am today.
