The image of a saint*
My mother was someone who wanted to follow her dreams but would give it all up just for her children. She immigrated to the United States Of America to follow “The American Dream”. She always wanted to have freedom, to have the job she always wanted, to be educated about the things she would love to do. America was the “nation of immigrants” and mom proved that by traveling to follow her dreams and make a better future for her children, like many immigrants do. She had enough money to go to America with my older sister, Yahaira (who was three and a half at the time). The object that she brought with her was an image of a saint. That was the object that she really ever did cherish. It represents how she believed that great things will happen when she arrives to the United States Of America with my sister. The image consists of a saint in a robe like the ones at church surrounded by nature. She got the image in Mexico. Her journey to America began with an image and a child. :)
