The Cross of our Home

Tiny cross with an Angel on it

My Grandma, Maria Socorro Rodriguez, legally immigrated here from Guadalajara, Mexico in 1959 at the age of 18. By the time she was 24, she had my Uncle Luis, my Aunt Sylvia- whom I am named after- and my Dad, Martin. My Grandma is a Catholic woman despite the rest of our family being Christians, however she doesn’t mind so long as we all follow the life of Christ. Her gift to my parents was given to them way before I was born when they got their first house together. It was this tiny little cross with a Precious Moments angel floating above it as pictured. My Grandma had given them this little cross to symbolize that our home would always be blessed and that we would have something to look to in times of need or hardship. She immigrated here to start a new and greater life for her children and their children after her and so she wanted us to have something that would remind us that not only was she praying for us to have a greater life ahead of all of us but she moved from her homeland to do so for her future generations.
