The Basson Diamond

My object is the Basson Diamond. It is either from Romania, Vienna, or Poland. It’s used as a family heirloom. It’s been passed down to my mom, who set it in a necklace. There used to be four of them, but three got lost. Two got lost in a subway, and one is with my great uncle Eddy’s wife, but we've grown apart. I chose this item because it’s been passed down and it’s a symbol of marriage. When I found out that we had a family diamond I wanted to share it. It shows me that back in the day Jewish stonecutters cut diamonds differently than other jewelers. It’s connected to my great grandma Dotty, my grandpa Steve and his brothers and their wives, my dad Alex and his brothers and their wives all the way down to me.
I want to ask Dotty about how she got it? How did they get it? All the way back to when it was cut. I want to ask my grandpa’s brothers what they did with the diamond. I want to learn everything I can about my ancestors and the diamond.

Place(s): Romania, Vienna, or Poland
