The Alchemist, a book about a shepherd traveling the world, is a very important book to my family in many ways. One way the Alchemist is very essential is that the book inspired my mom to move to the U.S. Her family originated from Turkey and then moved to Germany. Before coming to NYC she visited San Francisco then settled in NYC in 1998 and had me in 2003. Today my mom misses her home but she does not regret her decision to come to NYC. She connects her family roots and where she comes from through this book. Therefore, the Alchemist is crucial to my family history. After my mom told me this story it made me understand the importance of being open to new things.
