A tapa cloth is a living archive of Polynesian culture, history & identity. 
The tapa cloth is made out of the inner bark from a mulberry tree. The bark is soaked then beaten flat. Then its painted with dyes to make patterms & designs. It comes from the Polynesian Islands & is used in cermonies. 
The tapa cloth has many different purposes, Its a gift exchange for weddings or funerals. It can also be a distingushed token of wealth.  Durring funerals, its used as a burial covering to honor the deceased during mourning. It can also be used as a bed cover or a wedding gift to celebrate union. Its often used as wall decoration. Displayed in peoples homes to show family traditions, heritige & artistic pride. 
My grandpa said he would give me the tapa cloths that are hung up in house. To carry on tradition, I will do the same & hang them up in my future home.
