Tamales
My mom is from Michoacan, Mexico and when she moved over to here the United States my mom has this recipe which was tamales. My family's ancestors are also from Michoacan, Mexico. My mom makes tamales for only special occasions like birthdays or Christmas. Tamales begin with dough made from nixtamalized corn called masa. Tamales are generally wrapped in corn husks and have either meat or vegetables in them. My mom got this recipe from my grandmother who passed it on to my mom then my mom passed it on to me and my sisters. I think this is very important is because its been passed on through my family and its also part of our culture.
