Swiss Military Cap

In Attire

My object is my great-grandfather's military cap. He was a member of the Swiss Army around 1916 because military service was required of all eighteen-year old men. He was part of an elite military team that patrolled the Swiss Alps on skis!  All of his friends signed the inside to commemorate their time serving together and the friendships they forged protecting their country while traveling in the mountains. While my great-grandfather never immigrated to America, his daughter - my grandmother - did, and her father's cap has been passed down to my mother and now hangs in our family's home. It is an important part of my mother's family history and also of my own Swiss heritage.
