The sweet potato is extremely significant to Ms. Whilda Johnston.  It is one of the main ingredients in a delicacy that has sustained the family for generations, sweet potato pie.  The other main ingredients in this family tradition are love and caring.  Sweet potato pies have been a source of income and solace for Ms. Whilda Johnston.  The pies she made provided her with means to care for aging family members and have brought joy to many members of the community.
