Star of David Charm

In Attire
Relationship: Child of im/migrant
Partner:

This is a charm that my mom's high school boyfriend made for her in the USSR. He made it in 1990, and my mom immigrated in 1991. She brought this charm along with a metal rose he had made for her. The charm is made out of wire and a 5 kopeks coin. The wire is twisted and strung through through holes in the coin, where it is secured in the back. If you look closely, under the star, you can still see the coat of arms, with a hammer and sickle above a rising sun. At the time, no stores sold anything with a star of David on it. My mom was fairly rebellious by wearing this. My grandmother got mad at my mom for wearing this publicly and to school.

Year: 1991
