Star of David
This object is a Jewish star made out of gold. This star is the Star of David, and it is an emblem of Judaism. My ancestors in Poland would wear this charm to show that they were Jewish, but then had to hide it when it became dangerous to be a Jew. My great grandmother, Ruth wore this charm in America after she emigrated from Poland in 1935. This object was made in the early 1900’s, and it has been passed down for generations. When my great grandmother brought this Star of David to America, she wore it proudly, because in America she didn’t have to hide her religion. She lived in a packed tenement in New York City, where she gave birth to my grandmother. She gave this charm to my grandmother, and my grandmother gave it to my father. Now my father owns this object, and treasures it, because it shows that he is proud to be a Jew.
