One tradition that my family has is playing the song “Tu Cumpleaños, Nueva Escuela” every time a family member has a birthday. It does not matter whose birthday it is or how old they are, the song is always played. It has become such a normal part of our birthdays that everyone expects to hear it when we celebrate.


Whenever someone’s birthday comes around, my family gets together, celebrates, and plays the song. Sometimes we sing along, laugh, and enjoy the moment together. Even though it is just one song, it makes the birthday feel more special because it is something that our whole family does. It is also funny because we already know that the song is going to be played no matter what. Another main detail is that my family is from the Dominican Republic and we love to dance, sing, and celebrate. So not only do we get to celebrate all together but we also get to represent our culture.


This tradition is important to me because it is something that connects all of us. Every family member gets the same tradition on their birthday, so it becomes a shared memory. As we get older, I think it will be funny to look back and remember how this song was played for every single birthday.


Overall, “Tu Cumpleaños, Nueva Escuela” is more than just a song in my family. It has become a birthday tradition that we continue every year. Even if we hear it over and over again, it would probably feel strange if we celebrated a birthday without it. It is one of those small traditions that makes my family’s celebrations feel like our own.
