Soldier Service Army Book
In the 1950s, my grandfather was drafted to protect the country of Cyprus from the invasion of the Arabs. He lived on a small island off the coast of Madagascar in Africa, called Mauritius. At the time, Mauritius was owned by the British, and so was Cyprus. As a soldier, my grandfather received a Soldier Service Army book. The book would contain everything about him, all medical records and other information, like a passport for the Army. Everywhere he went, he would have to carry his army book. My family moved to England in 2002, and I was born in 2004. I have been to Mauritius only twice, just to visit my family. This artifact is important to me because it one of the only things left to remember my grandfather by since he died before I was born. He was the only member of my family who served in the army of a great empire.
