Shell

At first glance, this looks like an ordinary shell from any beach (although you’d have to be lucky to find one in one piece), but it has a lot of sentimental value with my family. It was found by my grandmother on the beaches of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She brought it with her by boat to New York City as something that could always remind her of home. When my mother left college, she asked to take the shell with her for the same reason. When either of them was going through a tough time, they would put the shell to their ear and hear the sounds of home.
