Shadow Box
My object is a shadowbox that my uncle made which he gave to my dad. The box is a brown, wooden frame with a clear glass display so you can see what is inside. Contained inside, it has his discharge papers which gives more detail to his time serving, one of his two purple heart medals, and more good conduct medals. He received two purple heart medals honoring him for being wounded during his service. One was from being shot, and the other was from a grande blowing up. The history of the contents is important because it is related to somebody who served in the military and fought in World War II for our country. He helped liberate European countries and those who were held in the concentration camps. This box serves importance to my family because it shows that my grandfather put his life on the line time and time again battling for our country and helping so many people. Seeing this box when I walk through that hall of my house reminds me to be more grateful for the country we live in, and the freedom we get because of those who have fought for our country and to live the lives we are blessed to. Growing up, I never got to make a connection with my grandfather as he passed before I was born, so this box helps me feel like I knew a small piece of him even though we never met.
