Rosettes
Ever since I can remember, my father has been making rosettes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Rosettes are a special kind of cookie that is fried and then iced the next day. They originate from Scandinavia, however, they became popular in many places including the Czech Republic, which is where most of my roots come from. They are important not only because of the holiday they are shared on, but also because of the company they were shared with. Since I was born, part of Christmas has always been celebrated at what we called the “Humlicek house”. Most all of my father’s relatives, from great-aunts to my cousins, would come down, and we would all eat dinner and open presents and take family photos. The house always had a special feel to it, like it would always be meant for those special gatherings.
