Red Envelope for Lunar New Year
Red Envelope for Lunar New Year

This red envelope is important to me because it is the first one I ever received in my life, by my grandma who passed away when I was still young. These red envelopes connect me closer to my culture because even though I can’t celebrate it in Vietnam with my family who live there, I celebrate it in the U.S. with some of my family who also celebrate it.  The meaning of red envelopes is lucky money since red is the color of good luck in most Asian cultures and it serves as a pocket to hold money.

The significance of this red envelope is big, and so is its meaning. It represents Asian and Vietnamese culture, for Lunar New Year, every year. It symbolizes the love and well wishes of elders who give them to us, hoping for our happiness, success, and good health. Even though it may seem like just a normal envelope, it carries deep cultural meaning and traditions that have been passed down for generations. It reminds me of family, celebration, and the importance of staying connected to my roots and culture of my people, ancestors, and generations.
