Sheet Music
My object is sheet music of a composition I made for a competition. When I was young, my parents asked me if I wanted to take piano lessons. I thought “Sure, why not.” This is where my love of music began. I love music. I love to play music, listen to music, and to make music. I feel like this piece represents my relationship to music. I like playing music because it is an effective way to relax after a long day. I like listening to music because it can help in processing emotions. I like making music because it gives me an outlet to express and share my emotions. It is also very satisfying to finish learning a piece or writing a song. Music also runs in my family. My mom was a national level singer before immigrating to the US for medical school. When she arrived in America, she kept her love for music. In addition, my grandmother also used to be a singer. Music is something that we can bond over. During dinner, we share music. My parents are very busy, so I don't get to see my family in India often. However, music helps me connect with my culture. Most people would benefit if they learned an art, not just music. The arts are a wonderful way to express, share, process, and articulate one’s emotions. They can also bring someone closer to their family or community. The process of learning and honing your skills is a long journey, but one that a lot of people could gain from.
