The Red Bag always reminds me of the Chinese culture. Red bag is also called "push year money", the "year" is a beast that kills people. So "push year" is like to make the beast go away. The elder people always give red bag to children in the Chinese new year, because the beast "year" always come at this period and kill children. Because the elder people could use firework to scare the beast, but children could do firework easily, so the only thing they have is the Red Bag from the elder people. Children could give the money inside the Red Bag to the beast to bribe it, so the beast would not kill them.
